"Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is a substitute for gasoline (petrol), diesel, or propane fuel . It is considered to be a more environmentally "clean" alternative to those fuels and it is much safer than other motor fuels in the event of a fuel spill: natural gas is lighter than air, so it disperses quickly when leaked or spilled.

It is made by compressing natural gas (which is mainly composed of  methane (CH₄)),to less than 1% of its volume at standard atmospheric pressure. It is stored and distributed in hard containers, at a normal pressure of 200–220 bar (20–22 MPa), usually in cylindrical or spherical shapes .

In response to high fuel prices and environmental concerns, compressed natural gas is starting to be used in light-duty passenger vehicles and pickup trucks, medium-duty delivery trucks, and in transit and school busses." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compressed_natural_gas)

With gas prices so high this will save hundreds per month in fuel costs.
In diesel engines CNG can increase fuel mileage up to 50 MPG highway and increases horsepower. At an idle the fuel is 100% diesel and as RPM goes up the CNG begins to replace the diesel fuel. So it is important to keep the CNG tank full and that will replace the $5.00 fuel with 64 cent fuel. The cost for installing: $3000 for the kit plus the cost of the tank and installation. Price varies on the tank and installation because it depends on where the tank needs to be installed. These conversions run about $6000-$6500.
Gasoline installations will be EPA certified kits which are designed to work in harmony with the vehicle computer system and verify that the vehicle will meet federal emission standards  without damage to any components, the engine, or electronic systems.  These systems work on Gasoline or on CNG so the system doesn't mix the fuels. Our Technician is the only EPA certified technician in Southeastern Utah. Gasoline conversions generally run between $6000 and $14000 depending on  engine, tank, and the labor involved for a quality installation.

This is an answer to your concerns of rising fuel prices! With natural gas going for $0.64 a gallon this is the way to avoid some of the strain caused by $4 and even $5 gas prices.
